project-frog-largeProject Challenge: Project Frog is on a mission to revolutionize the way buildings are created. Described as LEGOS® on steroids, the Project Frog approach applies new technology to overcome the inefficiencies of traditional construction. The result is measurably greener and significantly smarter spaces such as the new 7500 square foot Crissy Field Center located on San Francisco’s waterfront adjacent to the picturesque Presidio and the Golden Gate Bridge. The Crissy Field Center consists of environmental education classrooms, a science lab, a community gathering room and popular Beach Hut Café. Designed with durability in mind, high performance features to note include the sleek storefront with aluminum exterior and environmentally friendly glazing and signature clerestory.

Architectural solution: Critical to the success of the project was the smooth integration of jamb and trim details to accomplish the desired exterior appearance. The creative JELD-WEN Architectural Consultant and Commercial Solutions team worked in concert with local dealer Associated Building Supply to create designs of mulled, high performance window units which complimented the look of anodized aluminum and fit into a value conscious budget. Intended as a model of sustainable development for both students and community, the project strived to reach its efficiency goals while minimizing its environmental footprint.

Incorporating JELD-WEN Premium Siteline EX Arctic Silver casement and awning windows with stainless steel hinging hardware, the project team successfully accomplished their goal. Made with durable AuraLast® wood, the windows featured efficient glazing with low U-Factors and 20-year warranties.

Project details / benefits: Premium Siteline EX clad wood windows with Auralast® wood, ENERGY STAR® qualified windows and doors featuring Low-E glazing, Prefinished Arctic Silver aluminum clad exterior for ease of maintenance, Reliable 20-year warranted AuraLast® wood for durability.

Architect: MKThink - San Francisco, CA
Builder: Fisher development - San Francisco, CA
Dealer: Associated Building Supply Inc. - Burlingame, CA
Comments: An ENERGY STAR® Partner since 1998, JELD-WEN ENERGY STAR qualified windows with Low-E glazing maximized daylight in the buildings and aided the project in achieving LEED Platinum designation (pending) from the U.S. Green Building Council.

ABSi Recognized as Featured Western Window Systems Dealer with "The Vision House"

Western Window Systems recognizes ABSi as Featured Dealer in 2013!

"The VISIONS House"

western window systems featured dealers associatedAt Western, our dealers are our closest and most important partners. Dealers are not only our direct point of contact to end customers, they are often directly responsible for helping ensure that our products get ordered, installed and serviced the way they should. For that reason, we count ourselves incredibly lucky when we find dealers as excellent as Associated Building Supply.

Like Western, ABSi has lofty ambitions and believes they “exist to be the premier retailer of windows and doors for the discerning custom homebuilder, homeowner and architect.” Their focus on being great, coupled with a “Fairness Doctrine,” forms the foundation of their business and operating procedures that make ABSi a great dealer-partner for Western. “The top leaders of ABSi, Chris Cole and Scott Thurber, are two of the greatest guys you could ever be around,"says Western vice president Scott Leech. "A lot of their success has to do with the fact these are just great guys that are fair, do what they say and are committed to trying to be the best at what they do. Their rapid climb to become the highest volume dealer in California for Western has everything to do with their great leadership.” While great leadership is the foundation, ABSi also has seven beautiful showrooms, a talented and knowledgeable sales force, diversified products and financial stability. “As the Northern California sales rep for Western, I can’t tell you how much it has meant to me to have a great partner like ABSi. Their salespeople have committed themselves to becoming true product experts, and their focus on reaching and connecting to important architects in the area has been outstanding," adds Western dealer representative Jeff Jensen. "Plus, when you have a showroom that displays the Western product as beautifully as their new facility in Burlingame does, their team is equipped to make a great impression on any potential customer.”

ABSi is quickly making their mark by continuing to land and secure Western projects that are making news throughout the country. For example, the photos shown here are for a project called “The VISION House” that was featured in Green Builder Magazine (to read the full article, please CLICK HERE). The cutting-edge project, designed by KAA Design and P2 Design, included Western Bi-Fold and Multi-Slide Doors that helped promote the indoor/outdoor lifestyle that was central to the home design. “ABSi did a great job on this project. Customers love working with them, and so do I,” says Western dealer representative Todd Hayhurst. To Chris, Scott and the ABSi team: We want to say thank you for your partnership. We could not ask for a better team or a better dealer to help us continue our rapid growth in one of our most important markets. You guys are awesome.

Natural light also floods the home thanks to Series 700 Casement/Awning Windows that sit just below the roof line — which all dramatically expand the home's livable space. Western's products help to define this home by maximizing its best asset (the view) and drawing it into the home, which would have been impossible to do with a traditional wall or door.
